Create Christmas - an online course offering artists the knowledge and confidence to create beautiful Christmas artwork and capture the attention of the biggest commercial artwork market in the world!!
I’ve been an artist and designer for more than twenty years. During that time I’ve created Christmas-themed artwork for dozens of well-known companies, including Hallmark, American Greetings, Tag, Papyrus and CR Gibson.
Christmas is one of the best selling categories of commercial artwork. It sells endlessly, all year round, and the market is insatiable. Yet, so many artists find it challenging, don’t know where to begin and snag on a running internal commentary that goes something like this;
How do I stand out from the (enormous) crowd?
How do I create something fresh and exciting from the same icons (pine trees, holly, snowmen, reindeer) year in year out?
What are ‘acceptable' Christmas icons? And are they different from country to country? Do they even eat Christmas pudding in America? (answer-no!!!)
What role does colour play? Do I need to stick to the standard Christmas palettes? Can I risk introducing something a bit off the beaten track?
How do I maintain my ‘style’ while designing for this very specific market.
There are clear parameters and criteria for creating Christmas artwork successfully and I hope, by offering this course, I can guide you away from the self doubt towards a better understanding of how to tackle it!
Over the course of three weeks, I’m going to offer three trend-driven Christmas design briefs. They will be posted in a private Facebook group on Monday mornings at 10.00 am GMT.
Each week you’ll receive;
a very detailed written brief
a beautiful mood board, full of inspiring imagery
a unique, commercial color palette
a PDF of useful, relevant information based on my industry knowledge
a research project to increase your awareness of this market as a whole
During the week you can really explore each theme and create either one piece of art or even a mini collection.
Throughout I will be very present and available to oversee what you’re doing, advise and comment.
